I have ordered many cigars from Thompson over the years, many of them Rocky Patels....not this particular cigar. Simply said, they are impossible to smoke . Have tried every trick to get something out of these box pressed cigars...but so far no luck. Reading the mostly positive results and the few really bad ones, I guess some batches just went wrong. Good luck with these !

I have always enjoyed the Rockies and the were really fine. These are not a short smoke but could be enjoyed on a regular basis if you have the time.

I bought a five pack, this review is on the first of them. I noticed immediately that the wrapper was brittle, after lengthy storage in my well-tuned humidor. But it got worse from there. The construction was poor: loose filler at the foot, tight at the head. The draw was inconsistent throughout, but hot most of the way-- so much so, that it was uncomfortable to hold three inches down. To top it off, the flavor was that of a cigar that had been dropped in water and dried in an oven (I imagine, having never smoked such a cigar). That flavor lingered well after I snuffed it out, less than half way through. I honestly believe this cigar may be a fluke, a factory reject, or poorly stored. I don't see any way CA could have ever given this particular cigar a rating in the 90s .

When I want to treat myself, the 1990 is my go-to.

The 1990 is a great cigar. Don't light it right away, start by savoring the well fermented tobaccos in your mouth and you will preview the enjoyment of a fine cigar! After you do light up you will experience a good medium bodied jewel. I have enjoyed these cigars for a long time and the consistency is extraordinary. The box-pressed churchill is a gem and you won't be dissappointed!

The Rocky 1990 has been my favorite for years. It has never disappointed. Don't buy it, and leave more for me.

From the first to the last (1-5), not one of these Churchill sized cigars would burn properly. They were damp and simply awful tasting. Each of my humidors is stable and well regulated at around 67-68 % humidity at 70*F. I smoked the first shortly after delivery, prior to placing in my new cigars humidor. It was unsmokeable. It wouldn't light or stay lit. Once properly encouraged, there was no air flow through the cigar and every draw was work. The taste was vile. I let the rest stabilize in my humidor and would try another every week or so only to have the same terrible experience. This was not a result of bad conditions during shipping TO ME, as the Padron"s and Avo's were good. I had the exact experience with a five pack of 15th anniversary Rocky Patel cigars purchased from Thompson Cigar. I have smoked these cigars before in a shorter length without issue, but both these 5 packs were beyond bad.

Great solid five star cigar. On the upper side of medium, very tasty and lots of smoke. This is a very long lasting smoke also. Great for those times when you have a bit of time to sit back and enjoy the cigar. Very sharp box press as well. These are up there price wise for me but I still pick up a five pack now and than. The cigar has been consistently fantastic every purchase.

This cigar has a great, mellow and smooth flavor consistently. When you light up, this cigar reminds you of the best of cigar experiences! The 1990 is a staple in my humidor. If you haven't tried one, try the Churchill, you won't be disappointed.

Have not tried them yet; bought as a stop gap because I can't seem to get what I ordered back in January.

Nice Cigar. I bought the mix 4 five pack and got a great price. Lovely flavor and well constructed. I would have rated 5 stars but I am not fond of box pressed cigars. They tend to have a firm draw. But overall a very nice 90 rated smoke.

I have smoked these for years. They are a medium (to full) body cigar. I've had some issues with how they burn from time to time. Nothing major. Just touch-ups or an uneven tip. They do have a firmer draw because they are so long and box pressed. If you hate a firm draw then skip this stick. The flavor is medium to full. I generally drink a diet Coke or perhaps some scotch to keep it from overwhelming my pallet. I'm a big Rocky Patel fan. They have a great line of smokes and they participate heavily in the 5 pack fever specials. Where other makers have just a few 5-pack fever offerings, RP has over 40. That's a great way to get sub-$4 quality smokes. They are Churchhill's so they are long. I normally smoke a Robusto down to the knuckle. They I stop smoking around the 1st band. Lots of good nicotine - which is why I smoke. I'm no aficionado. I smoke 2-3 cigars a day while driving, working, watching TV, etc. I don't "contemplate the nuances," but I do know junk when I smoke it. These are quality with good consistency. Not perfect, but very good if you like a medium to full smoke. If you want t lighter RP smoke then stick with the Connecticut shade offerings. If you want flavor and don't mind a firmer draw then these are a great choice. I like the box press because I can set it down without it rolling off the hood of my truck.

Good cigar a bit too strong for my taste! other than that a good smoke fr the money...
