For A.J. Fernandez and his father Ismael, 2014 was the year of living fearlessly, as they teamed up to create their first cigar together: the New World Toro. Hell-bent on making something truly remarkable, the duo started with Nicaraguan long fillers from Ometepe, Condega, and Esteli, bound it with leaves from Jalapa, and topped it off with a hearty Nicaraguan wrapper. Appropriately named New World for Christopher Columbus' 1492 expedition, the spectacular Nicaraguan puro offers well-balanced elements of sweetness and spice, and an amazing aroma. Cigar Journal named it "Cigar of the Year", but it may well be the cigar of a lifetime.

Good, rich full flavored smoke. Be ready to devote some time to this bad boy. They last me an hour and a half, time for several beers! Good construction. I haven't encountered one yet that burns unevenly or draws too hard. But its a potent smoke.

About as good as a maduro can get. Construction, flavor, draw, etc are right up there with my fav CAO Flathead 660. Tried the New World in a sampler and was wowed. Great deal from Thompson persuaded me on a box purchase and I am enjoying them greatly.
