Comments about Padron Serie 1926 80th Anniversary Natural Torpedo Single Cigar:
I had purchased a number of different sizes of Padron Cigars via the Thompson auction site. The Padron Serie 1926 80th Anniversary Natural Torpedo has been aged in my humidors for approximately 6 months.
The cigar presents nicely with good attention to detail, and an enjoyed "figuardo" shape. The cigar is firm and smooth throughout its length and proportionally tapered showing the hands of an experienced Torcedor. Initial aroma is of premium tobacco with no discernible background notes. Cap cut is clean and even. Light is easily accomplished without toasting, with the tapered end, and attention is paid to making sure the light is even.
Initial draws reveal mild yet clearly premium tobaccos with no contrast. The smoke production is prodigious and very much enjoyed. I am unaware of the strength of this cigar throughout the smoke as I usually smoke 3 to 5 cigars per day primarily in the medium/full to full range. This cigar is definitely mild in taste throughout the smoke, but the quality of the fillers is undeniable and enthusiastically enjoyed. From a taste perspective, I have listed "Similar Products I Own" at the end of this review which compare favorably with this cigar, with the Oliva V Melanio's being medium/full in taste strength and Ashton Churchill's tending toward mild. All boast excellent premium tobacco fillers. The ash on this cigar is darker grey with light flaking and falls off at 1 1/4 inch.
This is an outstanding mild tasting premium tobacco cigar for those who like that profile. Ashton Churchill's are a good point of comparison. What this cigar lacks, especially for my tastes, is the complexity and taste counterpoints which I believe make for an outstanding cigar. That is my tastes...
In conclusion, if you like a mild cigar with great premium tobacco without background taste or subtleties, this is your cigar. However, at this price point, I take away a star, and would stick with Ashton's. Enjoy.
